Missing Bourne Bridge Letterbox

From: PaulandJayme (paulandjayme.duggan@verizon.net) | Date: 2004-06-20 21:24:00 UTC-04:00
Just thought I would let anyone boxing in Massachusetts know that the Bourne Bridge Letterbox is MIA. We were looking today 6/20/04. We ran into some RI boxers who tried to find it 6/19/04 and said it was missing then too. We did contact the placer but wanted to make sure anyone who might go looking would know.

Are you saying the Bourne Bridge box is misnamed as the Hancock Hill
box is? Or it has other errors in the directions?

I suppose it could be there somewhere but the directions in this
instance say it is behind the base of utility pole #270. There were
even 2 (out of place) rocks behind the pole which looked like they
were meant to hide the box but there was no box. We notified the
placer but haven't heard anything.

It means that boxes that are reported as missing are very often not.
Unless you are the placer of the box, and know for sure it's missing,
you're safest saying you "couldn't find" it. False reports of missing
boxes, however well-intentioned, may keep others for looking for boxes
that are merely well-hidden.

Hancock Hill is a notable example. Reported as "missing" by several
boxers over a period of more than a year, it was found exactly where
the clues said it would be.
